The VOC's copper coinage for its Asian territories was still being struck in the final years of the company's existence — a peculiar bureaucratic inertia given that the States-General had already nationalized the bankrupt organization in 1799. These pieces were produced under the Batavian Republic's authority but retained VOC imagery, the charter having legally expired yet the administrative machinery grinding on.
