Obverse description The obverse bears the province name TRAIECTVM (Utrecht) arranged in three horizontal lines across the field, with the Utrecht city arms — a shield displaying a heraldic cross — positioned above and flanked by a pellet on each side. The date of issue appears below the inscription. The overall design is characteristic of the plain, text-focused style of Dutch provincial coinage of the early seventeenth century, struck by the hammering technique resulting in an irregular flan.
