Obverse description A nimbed figure of Saint Peter kneeling to the left occupies the central field, rendered in a simplified late-medieval style typical of Low Countries billon coinage. The saint is depicted in a posture of veneration, with hands raised. Two small heraldic shields flank the figure on either side within a beaded or pelleted inner border. A Latin legend surrounding the central device identifies the patron saint and the city of Metz, reading partially S`S PETRV M PATRON.
