Between the inner and outer beaded borders runs an inner circular legend, and a second outer legend fills the area between the outer beaded circle and the coin's rim, creating the characteristic double-legend layout of Flemish sterlings of this period. The cross arms are broad and well-defined, consistent with the pattee form used on Flemish coinage of the early fourteenth century. The overall design follows the sterling tradition adapted for Flemish comital issues, with the mint of Aalst identified in the outer legend. |
