Obverse description A boldly rendered double-headed eagle displayed within a four-lobed (quadrilobe) border, the heads facing outward to left and right with open beaks, the wings spread and the body covered in detailed scale-like feathering. The eagle's talons are visible at the base of the design. The entire device is enclosed within the raised quadrilobe frame, with the circular outer legend separated from the central field by a beaded inner border. The composition reflects the Gothic heraldic style characteristic of mid-13th-century Flemish coinage.
