Frederik III used the 2 Speciedaler format as a prestige issue rather than a workhorse denomination — these were presentation pieces and gifts within diplomatic and aristocratic circles, not coins that saw the counting house floor. The omission of the king's motto is the defining feature here: most Frederik III dalers carry DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT, and its absence likely indicates a specific die commission rather than a production oversight, though the exact occasion remains undocumented.
Frederik III died in 1670, making 1669 output from the Copenhagen mint among his final authorised coinage.
