(Translation: Piety strengthens the realms King Christian the Fourth, King of Denmark and Norway, the Goths and the Wends, duke of Schleswig, Holstein, Stormarn, and Ditmarsh, count of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst)
Reverse description The Danish royal arms displayed on a long-armed cross, encircled by a ring of thirteen oval provincial shields representing the territories of the Danish realm, all contained within an outer pearled border. The Danish crown surmounts the design, cutting through the pearled circle at the top. Suspended from the lower arm of the cross is the badge of the Order of the Elephant, Denmark's premier chivalric order. The bold heraldic composition, with its radiating arrangement of territorial shields, is characteristic of the ambitious, imperially inspired coinage of Christian IV.
