| Reverse description | The quartered royal shield of King George IV occupies the central field, displaying in the first and fourth quarters the three passant guardant lions of England, in the second quarter the rampant lion of Scotland surmounted by a crown, and in the third quarter the Irish harp. The ornate shield is flanked by decorative baroque scrollwork and surmounted by a royal crown. The circular legend BRITANNIARUM REX FID : DEF : runs around the periphery, faithfully reproducing the inscription from the original George IV sovereign coinage. A beaded inner border frames the entire composition. |
