Tristan da Cunha holds a peculiar position in British numismatic history: it is the most remote permanently inhabited island on Earth, some 2,400 kilometers from the nearest landmass, and its coinage is issued under Crown authority despite the island's own economy running largely on fishing licenses and postage stamp sales.
