Reverse description A standing, crowned queen robed in full-length classical drapery faces left, resting her right hand upon the mane of a large lion also facing left and positioned before her; the composition evokes William Wyon's celebrated 'Una and the Lion' design from the 1839 British gold five-pound piece. A key lies in the exergue beneath the lion, symbolising Gibraltar. The Latin legend 'MONETA REGIA GIBRALTARICA' arcs around the upper field, the Roman numeral date 'MCMLXXXIX' appears in the lower central field above the exergue line, and the commemorative inscription 'SESQUICENTENARIUM' curves along the lower border, marking the 150th anniversary.
