| 背面描述 | The classic Pistrucci reverse design depicts Saint George, helmeted and in armour, astride a rearing horse to the right, thrusting a broken lance downward into the writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves. The composition is dynamic and sculptural, with the saint's cloak billowing behind him and the slain dragon rendered with fine detail in the lower field. The engraver's initials 'B.P.' appear to the right of the groundline above the exergue. The date 2023 is inscribed in the exergue in bold numerals, with no additional legend on the reverse. |

Struck to mark Charles III's coronation on 6 May 2023, this issue inaugurates a new sovereign series after a reign gap of over seventy years — Elizabeth II's coronation sovereign having been struck in 1953. The Royal Mint produced both bullion and proof versions, with the proof issue strictly limited and sold out rapidly upon release.
The obverse portrait by Martin Jennings — his first coinage effigy — replaced the long-running Jody Clark portrait used on pre-coronation Charles III issues from 2022.
