Reverse description A Type III crowned lion countermark, applied by Swedish colonial authorities of Saint Barthelemy, is punched centrally into the reverse field of the host Cayenne 2 Sous coin. The countermark consists of a crowned rampant lion within a circular incuse punch, used to validate and revalue French Guiana coinage for circulation on the island. A circular legend surrounding the countermark reads LA COLONIE DE ST BARTHELEMY, identifying the issuing colony. The underlying reverse design of the host coin is largely obscured by the prominent countermark.
