| Obverse description | Bare-headed draped bust of Louis XVI facing left, hair dressed and tied at the nape with a ribbon, engraved in the neo-classical style by Pierre-Benjamin Duvivier. The king's effigy is rendered with fine detail, including the flowing drapery at the truncation. The circular legend around the bust reads LOUIS XVI ROI DES FRANÇAIS, invoking the constitutional title adopted after 1789. The date and mint letter appear in the lower field below the bust truncation. |
