| Obverse description | Central field features a tablet inscribed with the Decree of the Rights of Man, bearing the legend LES HOMMES SONT EGAUX DEVANT LA LOI (All men are equal before the law). To the left of the tablet appears a bunch of grapes, and to the right a sheaf of wheat, symbolizing agricultural abundance. Above the composition, an all-seeing eye radiates beams of light, a Masonic and Enlightenment emblem of divine oversight. The outer legend reads REPUBLIQUE FRANCOISE, with the engraver's signature DUPRE and the date L'AN II (Year II of the French Republic) in the lower field. |
