Obverse description A standing allegorical figure in classical armor, identified as Minerva or Liberty, rests her right hand on an oval shield inscribed BOLI / VIA mounted on a pedestal adorned with a laurel wreath in relief; in her left hand she holds a staff surmounted by a condor with spread wings. At her feet to the right is a cornucopia overflowing with coins. The encircling legend reads LIBRE Y FELIZ POR LA PAZ, with the engraver's name F. BAQUERA inscribed in the lower exergue.

Reverse description Within a wreath of olive branches tied at the base with crossed hammers, the date ABRIL 4. DE 1855 is inscribed in three lines in the central field. The surrounding legend AL PROTECTOR DE LAS INSTITUCIONES DEL PUEBLO runs along the outer rim.
