Aanvullende informatie

The "Isole e Armata" denomination was struck specifically to pay Venetian naval forces and garrison troops operating in the Aegean and Ionian islands during the Morean War — Venice's surprisingly successful campaign that briefly recaptured the Peloponnese from the Ottomans between 1684 and 1699. These coins circulated in occupied territories rather than the lagoon city itself, which explains why survivors in decent condition are scarcer than their mintage might suggest: they lived rough lives in military camps and island outposts.
