| Obverse description | Crowned oval shield bearing the quartered Danish arms occupies the central field, with the crown rendered in varying styles across die varieties (thick or thin). The royal title legend encircles the shield, reading FRIDERIC9.III.D:G.DAN, abbreviated in the convention of the period. The date appears divided at the sides of the shield on Type 1 and Type 2 varieties, or at the conclusion of the legend on Type 3 varieties. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-seventeenth century Danish hammered coinage, with die workmanship varying noticeably between sub-types. |
