| Reverse description | The arms of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek are depicted centrally within a circular cartouche formed by a wagon wheel rim and axle, the national symbol of the Voortrekker heritage. The coat of arms features a quartered shield bearing an anchor and cross, flanked by a couchant lion to the left and a standing Voortrekker figure holding a rifle to the right, with a covered ox-wagon in the lower portion of the field. Two decorative scrolls appear at top and bottom of the cartouche. The peripheral legend reads ZUID AFRIK. REPUB. arcing across the upper field, with the date to the right, and 2 SHILLINGS along the lower portion, all separated by five-pointed stars. A beaded border frames the entire design. |
