The trunk of the palm rises from a decorative foliate base, with fronds spreading symmetrically on either side. The date numerals are positioned to the left and right of the trunk in the lower portion of the inner circle. The legend 'BRITISH WEST AFRICA' arcs across the upper field outside the cartouche, and 'TWO SHILLINGS' curves along the lower field, with the mint mark appearing as part of the reverse lettering on struck examples. |
