Obverse description Left-facing effigy of King George V wearing an imperial crown, with a short beard and dressed in robes with a draped collar. The portrait is rendered in high relief in a classic early 20th-century British colonial style. The circular legend surrounds the effigy, reading GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:, with a small stop at the base of the field. The coin features an inner beaded border.

Reverse description A tall, centrally placed palm tree dominates the field, its fronds spreading symmetrically and its base flanked by low tropical vegetation. The date 1920 is divided by the trunk of the palm tree, with 19 to the left and 20 to the right, rendered in large numerals at mid-field. The legend BRITISH WEST AFRICA arcs above along the upper periphery, while TWO SHILLINGS curves along the lower periphery, separated from the central design by decorative scroll ornaments. An inner beaded border frames the entire composition.
