Obverse description Obverse trial die featuring the right-facing laureate effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Mary Gillick, with hair gathered and adorned with a wreath of laurel. The truncation of the bust is plain and unadorned. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II REGINA, disposed around the upper and lower fields within a beaded border. This piece represents an obverse trial striking, produced to test the die design prior to the finalisation of the circulating coinage, and exhibits characteristic die-finishing tool marks consistent with pattern and trial production.
