Obverse description Right-facing laureate effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Mary Gillick, occupies the central field. The Queen is depicted with a laurel wreath in her hair, her tresses gathered in a chignon at the nape, and her shoulders lightly draped. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II REGINA, disposed in capital letters along the upper arc from left to right. The rim is defined by a continuous inner beaded border, characteristic of the milled South African coinage of the period.
