Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing left, modelled in high relief with naturalistic detail, engraved by Thomas Humphrey Paget whose initials 'HP' appear at the truncation of the neck. The royal legend encircles the portrait, reading from lower left to lower right around the periphery of the field. The design notably departs from tradition by presenting the King uncrowned and facing left, contrary to the usual alternating convention.
