| Obverse description | The obverse displays a multi-line Persian inscription in naskh/nasta'liq script arranged within a rectangular cartouche divided by horizontal bands, occupying the central field of the irregular flan. The legend records the royal titulature of Shah Muhammad Khudabanda, son of Tahmasp, along with the mint name Shiraz and the AH date 986. The script is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of Safavid hammered coinage, with the legends extending nearly to the irregular milled border. Peripheral areas of the flan show the typical ragged edge associated with hand-cut silver blanks of the period. |
