| Obverse description | The obverse is entirely epigraphic, displaying a densely composed multi-line Arabic legend in bold Naskh-Thuluth script within the central field, enumerating the Shahada followed by the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'a Islam in sequential order. The central inscription is surrounded by a marginal legend continuing the religious text, rendered in a similarly elaborate calligraphic style. The composition fills the entire flan with interlocking calligraphic strokes, characteristic of early Safavid hammered coinage. No figurative imagery is present, consistent with Islamic numismatic tradition. The irregular flan and variable strike depth are typical of hand-struck production at early Safavid mints. |
