| Obverse description | Central field features a prominent circular cartouche enclosing the name and titles of Shah Isma'il I in dense nasta'liq script. The surrounding field is filled with the extended royal titulature in multiple registers, reading in Arabic: 'al-Sultan al-'Adil al-Hadi al-Wali Abu al-Muzaffar Shah Isma'il Bahadur Khan al-Safawi, may God perpetuate his kingdom and sultanate.' The coin is struck on an irregular flan with characteristic hammered fabric, with legends covering virtually the entire surface. A date appears in the lower portion of the obverse field. The overall layout follows early Safavid epigraphic convention with no figural imagery. |
