| Obverse description | Central field bearing the royal Persian inscription in flowing naskh script, naming Shah Abbas I as servant of the Imam of Sovereignty ('bande-ye Shah-e Velayat Abbas'), with a prayer invoking God's perpetuation of his reign and beneficence upon all the world. The mint name Isfahan (Isbahan) and the regnal year appear within the inscription field. The legend is arranged in multiple registers across the flan, typical of Safavid hammered coinage, enclosed by a circular border of fine beaded or dotted design. The overall strike is irregular in shape, consistent with hand-hammered production. |
