| Reverse description | The reverse bears a multi-line inscription in thuluth script arranged in horizontal registers across the field, recording the royal epithet and titles of Shah Abbas I, the mint name Shustar, and the regnal year 997 AH (1589 CE), with the digits of the date struck in retrograde orientation. The legend reads 'Banda-yi Shah-i Wilayat Abbas' (Servant of the King of Sanctity, Abbas), followed by the mint formula. The inscription is contained within an irregular flan typical of hammered Safavid production, with the calligraphy boldly rendered in the thuluth style. The reverse layout follows the standard Safavid two-shahi format, with mint and date information subordinated to the ruler's devotional title. |
