背面描述 A centrally placed radiated tortoise (Geochelone radiata), known as Tu`i Malila, presented in profile view facing left, rendered with detail to the carapace patterning. The denomination 2 SENITI is inscribed in the lower field beneath the tortoise. The design is enclosed within a beaded border. Tu`i Malila was famously gifted to the Tongan Royal Family by Captain James Cook in 1777 and became a celebrated symbol of Tongan heritage.

附加信息

Salote Tupou III ruled Tonga for nearly five decades and became internationally known almost entirely through a single moment: her open-carriage appearance in the rain at Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation, where she reportedly refused to close the hood out of respect. She died in 1965, meaning this 1967 issue was struck posthumously — part of a transitional coinage series that bridged her reign and that of her son Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, who formally modernized the currency system in subsequent years.
