2 Sedicine - Francis Maria II della Rovere Two saints, without collar

Francesco Maria II della Rovere ruled Urbino for fifty years but died without a legitimate heir, and in 1631 — just seven years after his abdication — the duchy was absorbed into the Papal States through a pre-negotiated deed of devolution. He had effectively signed Urbino away himself. The sedicine denomination, a regional silver unit peculiar to the Montefeltro-Rovere monetary tradition, ceased production with the duchy's extinction.

The "without collar" distinction in the CNI classification separates this type from a near-identical issue and reflects a die variation significant enough to affect attribution. CNI XIII records both varieties across entries 118–124.
