Beschrijving voorzijde Quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the della Rovere dynasty, surmounted by a ducal crown, all contained within a thin inner circle. The four quarters display the dynastic and territorial arms in relief, struck in the characteristic irregular style of hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading clockwise and interrupted by pellet stops. The overall composition is bold and centrally placed, typical of late Renaissance Italian state coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Francesco Maria II della Rovere was the last Duke of Urbino — he abdicated in 1624 and ceded the duchy to the Papal States, ending over a century of della Rovere rule. The long reign span of this issue reflects a static coinage policy typical of the smaller north-central Italian duchies, where denominations could run unchanged across decades. The sedicino, a fractional silver unit, circulated alongside heavier issues in a regional economy where small-denomination silver was chronically undersupplied.

Francesco Maria II died without a legitimate heir, having outlived his only son Federigo Ubaldo by two years. That dynastic failure, not force, is what delivered Urbino to Rome.
