Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a crowned heraldic shield bearing the Tizzone arms, composed of horizontal barry stripes, surmounted by a closed crown. The surrounding legend in Latin runs along the outer field, reading LVD TICIO DECI CO VIC IMP, identifying Louis II Tizzone as Count of Desana and Imperial Vicar. The design is characteristic of early sixteenth-century north Italian hammered gold coinage, with bold, deeply struck relief on an irregular planchet.
