Beschrijving keerzijde Central design depicts the Baptism of Jesus Christ by St. John the Baptist, shown as two standing figures in low relief: Christ bowing humbly at left with flowing robes, and St. John at right raising his right hand in blessing while holding a staff surmounted by a cross in his left hand. The date 2011 appears vertically in the right field, and the denomination 2·S is inscribed in the lower exergue. The Latin legend NON SVRREXIT MAIOR curves around the upper periphery, a scriptural reference to St. John the Baptist.

Aanvullende informatie

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta occupies a peculiar position in numismatics: it issues coins as a sovereign entity despite controlling no territory, its "sovereignty" resting on a legal fiction recognized by roughly 110 states. Matthew Festing served as 79th Prince and Grand Master from 2008 until his forced resignation in 2017 — a rare instance of a sitting Grand Master being compelled to step down by papal intervention, the first in the Order's modern history.
