| Aanvullende informatie |
Lodovico Manin was the 120th and final Doge of Venice. When Napoleon's forces threatened the city in May 1797, Manin reportedly removed his ducal cap and handed it to his servant, saying he would not be needing it again — the Great Council voted to dissolve the republic that same day, ending over a thousand years of Venetian sovereignty. Any piece struck under his name carries that finality.
The eight-year window of this issue means most examples predate the fall, struck while the Zeccawas still functioning as a sovereign mint. Production ceased abruptly in 1797.
