| Reverse description | Finely engraved detail of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child, adapted from Cimabue's celebrated altarpiece Santa Trinita Maestà (c. 1280–1290). The Madonna is depicted in three-quarter view, her veiled head surrounded by a halo adorned with small floral rosettes, rendered in an austere Byzantine-influenced style. The Christ Child appears in the lower right, his head enclosed within an ornate circular halo. To the upper right of the field, the denomination 2 SCUDI is inscribed in large numerals and lettering, with the mint mark R and the engraver's signature MAURI visible in the lower left field. |
