Obverse description Central field features a displayed imperial eagle with spread wings, the body rendered in fine detail with a small shield at the breast. The eagle is encircled by a continuous Latin legend reading the title and name of the Archbishop. The design is characteristic of mid-16th century Germanic hammered coinage, with the eagle filling the flan in a bold, stylized manner.

Reverse description Central device depicts the castle of Riga, shown as a multi-towered fortification rendered in a schematic heraldic style, with crossed keys of the Archbishopric positioned above the castle gateway. The last two digits of the date (63) are separated by the castle on either side, with the full date 1563 distributed within the design. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, naming this as a new coin of Riga.
