| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the arms of Minden — a shield bearing two crossed keys — is centrally displayed, superimposed upon a long cross whose arms extend to the inner circle. The shield is rendered in a late-Gothic heraldic style characteristic of early sixteenth-century German ecclesiastical coinage. The surrounding legend, separated by stops, reads FRANCISC` DEI. GRA EPS` MIND`, identifying the issuing bishop Francis I by his title and see. The coin's broad flan and slightly irregular edge are typical of hammered technique. |
