Aanvullende informatie

1648 is the year the Peace of Westphalia ended the Thirty Years' War, signed in Münster itself — the city where this coin was struck. Ferdinand of Bavaria served as Prince-Bishop of Münster from 1612 until his death in 1650, simultaneously holding the sees of Cologne, Liège, Hildesheim, and Paderborn, an accumulation of ecclesiastical power that made him one of the most politically significant churchmen in the Empire. The peace negotiations had been conducted partly under his roof for years.
