Christian III issued these coins during one of the most violent episodes in Danish history: the Count's War (Grevens Fejde), a civil conflict that saw rival claimants backed by Hanseatic interests fighting to unseat him before his reign had properly begun. The Gottorp mint was operating under genuine political uncertainty for much of this window, and the four-year span of the issue reflects just how protracted that instability was.
