Reverse description A large plain cross divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each bearing a portion of the surrounding Latin legend. At the centre is an escutcheon displaying the double-headed imperial eagle, the arms of Lübeck as an Imperial Free City. The cross terminates near the beaded inner circle, and the circular legend reading CRVX FVGA OMNE MALVM — 'the cross puts all evil to flight' — runs continuously around the periphery between the inner bead circle and the coin rim.
