Wismar's early sixteenth-century schilling issues fall within the period when the Hanseatic city was navigating the competing pressures of Reformation politics and its commercial obligations to Lübeck. Kunzel's attribution distinguishes this type from the closely related 42b variety by die alignment and minor legend differences — a distinction that matters considerably for completeness in a Wismar civic series.
