Pattern coinage from Bank Indonesia in 1970 occupies an awkward historical moment: the New Order government under Suharto was barely four years into consolidating power following the violent purge of 1965–66, and monetary policy was being rebuilt from near-collapse. This piece was never approved for circulation — the 2 Rupiah denomination was ultimately abandoned at this weight and composition.
KM#Pn6 is one of a small cluster of bronze patterns from this year, most believed struck in extremely limited quantities at a foreign facility rather than domestically.
