The large numeral '2' appears in the lower field, flanked on the left by the bilingual country name 'भारत' (in Devanagari) and on the right by 'INDIA' and 'RUPEES' in Latin script, arranged vertically along the respective rims. Additional information

Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Reserve Bank of India, which was established in April 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act of 1934 — itself a direct response to the recommendations of the Hilton Young Commission of 1926. The RBI began operations privately owned, only passing into government hands after nationalization in 1949.

The 2 rupee denomination was still relatively new at the time of this strike, having been reintroduced into circulation only in 1982 after a long absence from the coinage system.
