Ceylon's 2 Rupee note had an unusually long production run with Bradbury, Wilkinson, and by 1979 the design was already dated — Sri Lanka had formally changed its name in 1972, yet the Central Bank continued issuing notes under the "Ceylon" title for certain denominations well into the decade, a bureaucratic lag that occasionally confuses collectors into misreading political chronology from the face of the note.
Ronnie de Mel served as Finance Minister under Jayewardene's UNP government, making his signature on currency a marker of the post-1977 economic liberalization period. Rasaputram was Governor of the Central Bank at the time.
