The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a Union Territory of India, and coins issued under that designation occupy an ambiguous legal space — they are authorized collectibles rather than circulating legal tender, produced by the India Government Mint primarily for the numismatic market. The X# prefix in Krause confirms non-circulating status.
The 2011 series for this territory drew collector interest largely because issues for Indian Union Territories are infrequent and the Andamans carry historical weight from their use as a British penal colony — home to the Cellular Jail, where Indian independence activists were imprisoned.
