Obverse description Central field features a detailed frontal view of the Janaki Mandir (Janaki Temple) of Janakpur, enclosed within a rectangular frame with the Devanagari legend 'नेपाल' (Nepal) above and 'जानकी मन्दिर' (Janaki Temple) below. Flanking the central temple motif are four symbolic vignettes at the cardinal positions: a stylised sun and an eye at upper left and right respectively, a lotus flower at lower left and a conch shell and ritual implements at the right. The Bikram Sambat date '२०७७' (2077) appears at the base, divided by the central frame. The entire design is enclosed within an ornamental border of raised dots and interlaced geometric ribbon work.
