Obverse description The State Emblem of Sri Lanka is depicted centrally, consisting of a golden lion passant holding a sword, set upon a maroon background within a circular border surmounted by the Dhamma Chakra (Wheel of Law). The emblem is flanked by petals of the blue lotus, the national flower, and rests upon a stylised plenitude pot (punkalasa) between two ears of rice. The legend 'SRI LANKA' appears to the left in Latin script, with the country name in Sinhala script (ශ්‍රී ලංකා) above and Tamil script (இலங்கை) to the right. The date '2017' is inscribed in the lower field.
