Reverse description A crowned lion passant to the right occupies the central field, rendered in a bold, stylized manner typical of Danish Indian coinage. The lion holds a battle-axe or halberd in its forepaws, a device associated with Danish royal heraldry adapted for the Tranquebar colonial issues. The design is enclosed within an inner circle with a plain outer border, the irregular planchet edge consistent with hammered production.
