The Transfiguration Church in Polotsk is among the oldest surviving architectural monuments in Belarus, with frescoes dating to the 12th century that were plastered over for centuries and only rediscovered during Soviet-era restoration work in the 1950s and 60s. The National Bank of Belarus has issued a long-running circulation bimetallic series commemorating Orthodox and Catholic religious sites across the country — this Polotsk piece fits within that ongoing program rather than representing a standalone issue.
