Gomel Palace passed through the hands of three Russian imperial families — the Rumyantsevs, the Paskevichs, and briefly the Vorontsovs — before being nationalized after 1917. Field Marshal Paskevich, who received the estate from Nicholas I as a reward for crushing the Polish November Uprising of 1830–31, is the figure more associated with the palace's architectural expansion and the family whose descendants held it until the Revolution.
